As time goes on, it is no surprise that the humble PC is being utilised more in our entertainment devices. We surf the net, chat, play games, watch movies and TV. Now we have HTPCs (Home Theatre Personal Computers). What differentiates these from our "normal" PC is that they are dedicated towards our digital entertainment needs. We'll concentrate on the Hi-Fi aspect on this page.

The most crucial aspect of a PC used for Hi-Fi is its sound card, whether it is internal or external. Internal soundcards come in many brands and designs, mainstream soundcards can be quite good for gaming and most audio needs. External soundcards or DACs (Digital to Analogue Converter), as more of you are familiar with, used in Hi-Fi applications have the advantage in that they are located outside of the chassis. By having the sensitive audio signals external to your PC, away from electrical noise inside the chassis, it is possible to obtain the High-Fidelity sound we all chase.
