Rose Voix TM-1 Photo 1

It has been a long time coming, but the Rose Voix TM-1 loudspeaker is finally here!

The TM-1 is entirely hand built in Queensland, Australia. The cabinet is produced from a combination of MDF and marine grade plywood. Every loudspeaker is then finished with a beautiful Australian produced real wood veneer.

Before starting our Rose Voix loudspeaker project, we decided on three characteristics that our final product would have:

  1. Single full range driver design (speed and transparency)
  2. Sweet sounding midrange
  3. Defined imaging and soundstage (use of a single full range driver!)

These factors helped us create a speaker that would capture the essence of music and reproduce with a smooth natural sound. The TM-1 have the amazing ability to disappear when the music starts playing, and produce a very BIG sound for the small 3" driver!

Driver selection is very crucial when it comes to building a speaker like the TM-1. Over a period of a year we tried numerous drivers from Fostex, CSS, TangBand and Visaton. But at the end of our evaluation, only one driver came on top. Certain drivers had a very forward "in-your-face" sound, other drivers had plenty of bass but they also smothered the midrange. Our selected driver has nice balance of top-end and bottom-end, this kept the midrange in focus without overpowering it.

During the process of choosing the driver, we also experimented with numerous cabinet designs. These included horns, transmission lines and bass reflex cabinets. Bass reflex was the most simple and cheapest cabinet, but resulted in overpowering bass and lack of detail and midrange clarity. Horns have a very nice sound but certain designs lacked bass, they were also the most expensive to produce and would therefore make it un-affordable to many people. Our decision on a transmission line was based on the fact that the sound it produced was very similar to the horns but had slightly more bottom-end.
