With the Nanzidu HSD-A001, all 3 drivers (tweeter, mid and sub) are firing omni-directionally.

If you look at the picture below, you will notice that the main speaker cabinet is lifted above a base plate. The base plate features a large mound in the center, which the down-firing sub driver is faced against. This results in the sound being spread out in 360 degrees.

In the picture below, you can see that the mid driver is firing upwards into a spike/cone. This is how the mid driver is omni directional.

And finally the patented 360 degrees super tweeter...

I have only heard the MBL 101E speakers once while I was at a Hi-Fi show in Hong Kong, in this short time I felt that the HSD-A001 sounded very similar. However, I have no doubt the MBL speakers are the overall better speakers if I had a better chance to listen to them (they do cost $40k USD and reviewers love them). And unfortunately, I have not yet found a shop in Australia that has them on display for me to listen to!

My colleagues in Hong Kong and Singapore, who've had a chance to compare the two speakers more closely do echo my thoughts on the similarity of the two. But at less then 20% of the cost of the MBL, I think the Nanzidu is a superb loudspeaker with no competition in it's price range.
